Installation Steps
Second Wind requires the "CART Racing" 1.0.1 version of IndyCar Racing II
After downloading Unzip the "CART Racing" folder to a new directory such as "C:/CART" or whereever you want the game to live!
hatcher's patch can be downloaded from grandprix2.racing
Download the "Basic" version if you want to play the original game, or the "Wide" version if you want higher resolution or widescreen.
Unzip the downloaded files (secondwind.exe and secondwind.hmm) to the main CART folder
Create a .cfg file with the settings you want to use. Check the latest changelog file included in the second wind download for a list of every setting.
For the current version (0.51) these are examples of settings which you may wany to use:
vid_fullscreen 0
vid_scaleToFullscreen 1
vid_aspectRatio 16:9
menu_skipIntro
joy_inputMethod DIRECTINPUT
//joy_remapAxis 1 3 0
//joy_remapAxis 1 4 1
//joy_remapKey Z 2 0
//joy_remapKey X 2 1
//joy_remapKey C 3 0
Included are examples on how to remap joystick axis or buttons. You can remove the "//" if you want to enable those settings. Here is what hatcher has included on how to remap things:
joy_remapKey [key] [device] [button]
joy_remapAxis [device] [original axis] [new virtual axis]
joy_remapPov [key] [device] [pov axis] [axis min value] [axis max value]
Joystick axis/devices start at "0"! So if you want to remap the 'first' controller the device is '0' and the first axis is also '0'!
In the Widescreen version the aspect ratio can either be "4:3" for double original resolution at 1280x960, it can be "16:9" for widescreen at 1280x720, or "24:9" for ultrawide at 1280x480
Lossless Scaling allows you to increase the perceived framrate as well as scale and manage the window of a game. It works very well paired together with Second Wind to enhance the fluidity and make the game fit your screen better!
I created an app which allows Force Feedback effects to be added to different versions of IndyCar Racing II. This app can be downloaded from my github page:

Great addon tracks/mods for ICR2 can all be found at the wonderful icr2.net community:
Be sure to check the forums for ongoing discussion and additional downloads!
Run the game using "SecondWind.exe" and enjoy!
